Netherlands Slavery Heritage Guide

€35.00

The Netherlands Slavery Heritage Guide focuses on the slavery heritage of the Netherlands as a whole. For 18 cities and regions each, five prominent locations will be shown and both well-known and lesser-known tales will be told. All in all, you’ll discover through 100 sites how the networks of the VOC (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie), WIC (West-Indische Compagnie) and MCC (Middelburgsche Commercie Compagnie) were of worldwide and national importance. The guide shows you how widespread the Netherlands’ connection to slavery was: whether through ownership of or profiting from the labor of the enslaved, abolitionism, or simply the trade in colonial wares that were the result of slave labor.

Besides from descriptions and maps of the various locatinos, the bilingual and richly illustrated book provides a number of thematic chapters that give some necessary background on the Dutch slavery past.
